The Power of Prayer
SOLID ROCK TEENS CHURCH FOUNDATIONAL CLASS
Bible Text: 1st Samuel 30 vs. 1 – 31
Memory Verse: “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God” – Philippians 4 vs. 6.
Introduction: Imagine a newborn baby trying to communicate hunger to his/her parents. Just a cry and the message is passed across for the parents to react. The same child grows and when hungry speaks clear language and is understood.
Prayer therefore is any means of communication between you the believer and God your creator. It can be in the form of praise, worship, intercession, thanksgiving or supplication.
Essentials for Prayer
- The word (This is where the desires of God for you are revealed) – John 15 vs. 7
- Faith (Belief in the promises and the one who promised) – Hebrews 4 vs. 2
- The Holy Spirit (He guides us in all truth and helps our short comings) – Romans 8 vs. 26
- The name of Jesus (He is the mediator between God and Man) – 1st Timothy 2 vs. 5 – 6
The essence of prayer is for fellowship. Jesus prayed to the father at all times and that was the power to his manifestation of eternal life on the earth. The same applies to us. 1st John 1 vs. 1 – 4.
Discussion
Temi is from a rich home. Her parents provide all that she needs. She does not see the need to pray to God because what she hears people ask for, she already has through her parents.
Tunde is from a humble background. His parents struggle to make ends meet. He has prayed in the past, but it seems that God did not answer, and he is fed up.
- Are they both justified in their actions with respect to prayer?
Fun Fact: Are you aware that when you offer up thanksgiving you are praying? Or when you open your mouth to sing praises? Once there is communion between your spirit and that of God you are praying.
What Prayer Does
- Prayer gives you access to the Life of God – John 1 vs. 4 – 5.
- Prayer gives you access to uncommon wisdom and insight needed to excel – Proverbs 2 vs. 3 – 5.
- Prayer gives you access to the help of Heaven in all you do – Matthew 15 vs. 36 – 38.
- Prayer gives you access to protection from above – Psalm 91 vs. 1 – 8.
- Prayer helps with transforming your mind for exploits – Romans 12 vs 1 – 2.
Conclusion: Power is the ABILITY TO DO WORK. When you pray you generate an ability to be who God wants you to be. Do not be deceived, Prayer is the Key. God has finished the work on the cross, however with prayer you appropriate the finished work into your life.
